York
If you have never been to York, you have not seen England. A comfortable train ride will take us there within 2 hours. If you are going to Scotland, you have a perfect chance to visit York on the way there.
During the Roman Empire the city was called Eboracum and the future Emperor Constantine was a procurator there. The Vikings, who took over the area in the 9th century called the city Yorvik and it became the capital of the Dane Law.
We will go down to the depth of 7 meters to see the excavated Danish city, inhabited with wax effigies of people of that time. We will walk on ancient Roman and medieval walls ,still surrounding York ,and visit Yorkminster, which is the second major Cathedral in the country after Westminster. Also, the streets in York are called gates, and I will tell you why, during our tour.
We will need 9 hours for the trip and you will wish you would stay there forever.
