Exeter
If you wish to see the real English countryside let's go to quiet and picturesque Devonshire, the birthplace of Agatha Christie, the queen of the detective genre. Devonshire is famous for thatched roof houses, white lambs and Dartmoor ponies pasturing in the fields. It seems like the time has stopped here and you are in England of the 19th century.
We will go to Exeter, the main city of the county, founded by the Romans by the river Exe. There is Exeter Cathedral and University -one of the best in the country. We will visit the museum of the Dartmoor prison from which Seldon, Conan Doyle's character from "The Hound of the Baskervilles " escaped. We will pop into the Post Office from which Sherlock Holmes sent his letters to Doctor Watson. And what about a traditional 5 o'clock tea with scones, jam and clotted cream? Devon Cream Tea is one of the best in the country.
We will need 2 days to soak in the atmosphere of this county. We can stay in a hotel or with an English family in a thatched roof house.
